With the upcoming New York Fashion Week this year, Anifa Mvuemba, founder of fashion label Hanifa was expecting to showcase her latest collection to the crowd. Unfortunately due to Coronavirus, she had to innovate and adapt to show the world her latest masterpieces. The effect was astonishing! This May, we witnessed technologically stunning runway show which users could watch lie over Instagram livestream. Each garment appeared in 3D hugging the bodies’ of invisible models walking down the runway. The result was fascinating. Thousands of people complimented the idea and asked for more.

Anifa leveraged technology and social media during the hard times to build a thriving direct to consumer business which in fact turned out to be very successful. The show was astonishing! It almost seemed like garments were worn by ghosts which was fascinating to view as opposed to the traditional fashion show which was allowed to be executed this year. Through this smart use of social media, she had got the attention of many celebrities who ended up wearing her outfits on the red carpet.

While Anifa was always captivated about the idea of using technology in this field, she mentions that she will never “exclusively use technology to replace people. I like working with real models too much”
